The Toothpaste on Pimples Myth

Pimples or zits are very common not only to teenagers but even to some adult. In teenagers, hormones bring about zits while for adults pimples are caused by too much stress, improper hygiene and some other factors.

Teenagers like to experiment with various solutions just to get rid of pimples. And their favorite pimple removal solution is to apply toothpaste on pimples. Where did they get such idea? Well there was this one teen who said that she heard it from one model claiming that toothpaste can actually help in removing pimples. And of course you know teenagers if a pimple removal solution works on someone they idolize they would definitely imitate it without considering the consequences.

Although it is not yet clear where the “toothpaste on pimples” solution originated but still a lot of teenagers as well as adults use this solution as acne pimple home remedy for their pimple problems. — And the result? Well there are some who have gained favorable results but there also some unfortunate individuals that scarred their face on the process.

You see some toothpaste contains high level of hydrogen peroxide, which really helps in achieving that winning smile, but when applied on the face, works like an acid irritating and burning the skin. You might have removed the pimple but in place of it is a scar. If you think that a scar is better than a pimple then that is your choice. Just remember that toothpaste on pimples is not a very ideal pimple removal solution.

Another important thing that you should remember, acne is a different case from occasional bump or zit. So just imagine if you will use toothpaste on each pimple you will burn or scarred your whole face. Acne is a severe pimple problem that cannot be remedied with simple toothpaste on pimples solution. You need expert solution, one that is prescribed by a dermatologist.

What to do?
There is no one-size-fits-all solution so if someone says that toothpaste on pimples has rid him of his zits then lucky for him. However, there is no guarantee that it will work as well for you. And do you know why? Because each person has a different skin type, some react to toothpaste well while others not so well.

Most toothpaste contains menthol, which can really help in drying out the pimple. But remember menthol is not the only ingredient found in your toothpaste there are other chemicals added that are likely to irritate your skin. And aside from that, common sense will dictate that if toothpaste can really help in removing pimples then it should have been placed there on the package. There should be a note saying, ” works well on teeth and also on pimples.” Unfortunately there is no such note.

It is not advisable that you experiment applying various solutions on your face just to get rid of one or two zits. You might regret this at the end. To be sure consult a dermatologist so that you will be properly guided on the proper treatment to use.
